For any plastic part manufacturing business, or for any other industry for that matter, communication plays a key role to success. It’s something that covers everybody in the business. Account managers communicate with clients to have a better understanding of their requirements. Production managers talk to the people managing the machines to help them understand what the customer demands. It’s something universal, something that can dictate the success of any job. One instance of communication can easily result to the wrong products to be made, resulting not only to wasted materials and other resources, but to delays that will make you lose credibility as well. To make communication within a plastic part manufacturing business even more effective, remember these tips: Communication is not just about one person talking – it’s also about the other party listening. No matter how clearly the person talking is explaining his point, if the other loses his focus and fails to listen, then the message will not be effectively sent. Consider who’s listening. If you’re explaining a point to somebody who is not as proficient as you are in the industry, do you think using manufacturing jargon would be an effective way to communicate? Always make sure you know who you’re talking to and speak at a level that the person you’re talking to understands. Be concise. Go straight to the point and avoid beating around the bush. The more words that come out of your mouth, the more that they’re going to have to process as well. This means that the chance of them missing out on the important points becomes higher. Ask questions. If you’re on the listening end, make sure you ask questions every time you come across a point that you don’t understand. There’s a chance that the person talking thinks that you understand what he’s saying completely. Until you make the move to clarify the blurry points, you will not gain full understanding of the message as well. Check for understanding.  If you’re the one talking, make sure you stop every so often to check for understanding. Sometimes, people are not expressive enough when they do not understand what you’re saying. Watch for body language that shows your audience is confused. Effective communication works two ways, with both the speaker and the listener playing equal roles in the conversation. Make sure you keep the flow of communication as open as possible to avoid mixed or missed messages that would compromise other aspects of the business.
